Regarding search engine optimization as a career?

Which are the best books and other resources to get started in SEO(search engine optimization) as a career option and also is there a fair chance of getting a job as a fresher in this field?

There are a lot of places to get SEO information from. There are tons of conferences (i.e. SMX, Webmaster World) as well as online sites with tons of information. I recommend Aaron Wall’s Seobook.com, Rand Fishkin’s Seomoz.org, searchenginestrategies.com and wpromote.com/blog is where our company writes about tons of SEO and other Internet Related news.

Many companies will train you on SEO, you just have to be a quick learner and be web savvy.

SEM Question – Can you have two different campaigns appear on the same SERP?

I have two different campaigns with AdWords and some of the campaigns have overlapping keywords. Each campaign is for a different website. If a user searches for that keyword is it possible for both ads to appear on the same page, or will only 1 ad appear at a time?
Also – if it’s not possible for this to happen, how can I make it to have two ads appear on the same search results page? What’s the best way?

I’m guessing that google limits displayed ads to 1 per account, otherwise someone could push out the competition by taking all 12 page one positions.

I have heard that the accumulated quality score for a given keyword applies to all campaigns. Suggesting bad ads on one campaign getting poor ctr would effect a winning campaign sharing the same keyword.

What is the single best search engine optimization (SEO) tool to help position a brand new website on Google?

In the next few days I am posting a brand new website that will primarly feature photography of a particular Canadian province. I am also planning to publish at least one photography poster featuring my work. With these elements in mind, is there a particular SEO tool that I really should work with(?) or is there a set of tools that are considered the absolute best and most valuable?

Sprank was too harsh regarding SEO.

Well SEO is one of the best and cost effective things which you can do with your business and gain lots & lots of popularity.

First step you should do is to look out for keywords using the following tool: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

Search for keywords and you will also find some similar words related to your keywords. Decide on keywords which are most related to your business and do the following activities:

Social Bookmarking – It means bookmarking your website on various Social Bookmarking websites like digg.com, delicious.com, jamespot.com, fanpop.com etc.

Question & Answers websites. Answers questions related to your business and get visitors to visit your website. There are many Q & A websites like Yahoo Answers, Blurtit.com, answerbag.com. yedda.com etc.

Above two will help you get referral traffic and some dofollow links from bookmarking websites will also help you in increasing website popularity.

The True Cost of DIY SEO

Many business owners will try to cut corners and save money when it comes to search engine optimisation (SEO) but as many have discovered from bitter experience, this is not always the best idea. DIY SEO has not always had the desired effect.

Although it may seems that you are saving money, the truth of the matter is that unless you are an SEO expert you may actually end up doing more harm than good. The search engines, Google in particular, are extremely sensitive when it comes to white hat and black hat SEO techniques and one slight mistake may cause your site to be permanently blacklisted!

Clearly, this is to be avoided and would cause a huge inconvenience not to mention the expense and time involved with creating a new website and the priceless damage caused to your brand.

It is often the case that when a site is removed from the search engines or loses its position, that the cause was purely an innocent mistake caused by lack of knowledge. Typically, the costs involved to rectify their mistakes far exceeds the initial cost of expert search engine optimisation.

If you are tempted to ‘have a go’ yourself, here are a few questions you should address before attempting to optimise your site:

- How accurate will your keyword research be without access to a professional tool set?

- How would you identify the most profitable keywords for your site?

- Do you know if the keywords you are targeting are actually searched for?

- How long would it take you to find relevant directories to submit your site too?

- How long would it take you to manually submit your website to those directories?

- Do you know where to establish relevant in-bound links to your site?

- Would you know where to look to find specific statistics in order to perform competitor analysis?

- Do you have the knowledge or tools to enable you to optimise your site and have you taken into consideration the fees for all of these?

You need to weigh up how long it will take to realistically research what you need to do and implement this compared to what you could be spending that time doing elsewhere to make you money concentrating on your area of expertise.

Search engine marketing is a profession and it can take many years to develop the necessary skills to understand fully what is required. If you wouldn’t consider running your own traditional marketing campaign, why leave your search marketing to chance?
