google meta keywords question?

If google does not use meta keywords to rank pages in SERPS, how exactly does it find keywords? Does Google find matches for a searched keyword automatically based on the content of the crawled pages??

Google looks at over 200 different factors that range from keyword usage to inbound links to age of domain (how long has the domain been alive and distributing content).

Google first looks at the keywords placed within the URL and the Tittle tag (description tag really doesn’t matter for ranking purposes). After that, Google then evaluate the readable content on your website’s pages. Google will actually look at the source code of your website for signals to what is important and what is not. These "signals" are everything from keywords in H1 and H2 headers to where are the keywords listed on the page. The top of the website is more important than the bottom of the website. So, keyword usage at the top tends to be more important than keywords at the bottom.

Google also take into account how many and the quality of inbound links are pointing to your content, what are the keywords on that website and in the URL anchor text, how old is that site and how many links does that website have pointing to it. Again, over 200 different factors.

If you can control all of those factors (which you can through a LOT of hard work), you will be able to move up higher on the SERPS.

Hope this helps. Remember to make best answer for the answer you like the best.
