How do I opt back into the UK state pension – SERPS?
I do not have a private pension and foolishly opted out a few years ago, but now want to opt back in I’m just not sure how to do it. Any help much appreciated! Thanks.
You can only be opted out if you contracted in to an employers or private pension scheme. If you did pay in to another pension scheme and no longer do so you can get in touch the the HMRC based in Newcastle who can alter your records. This can not be completed if you are still contracted in to another works or private pension scheme as you can only be contracted in to one pension of this sort at any one given time. I’d recommend you contact the HMRC if you are unsure (0845 302 1479).
Are there crossed wires somewhere? Unless you do have membership of a certain type of pension scheme you can’t be opted out of SERPS.
