What does the black hat practice means in a web design business?
Just wondering. Did a search and all i found was SEO black hat. But I want to know, what is black hat practice. Are they the same?
In web design, black hat is trying to trick and cheat search engines int giving a higher rating through "unethical" methods. showing a Google bot one page and showing real visitors another might be an example of this.

What is white hat SEO?
White hat SEO is a simple term often used to describe the type of practices and strategies used to optimize a website.
Optimize in this case means to make the website attractive to people searching for specific information.
A basic "good" search engine optimization strategy (white hat SEO) is designed to match a website’s messaging with the words
used for the inquiry. A question is typed into the search engine being used to elicit a response. For example someone looking
for information on rare birds of Asia might search with the question, "how do I find rare birds from asia" or they could
simple type "rare birds of asia." In response to the words typed by the searcher a page of results is produced that matches
the inquiry.
Better known as keywords, the terms used will find matching phrases that appear in the various sentences that populate a
website’s copy. When the webmaster or her SEO consultant chooses wisely and accurately the website benefits from waves of
traffic. This traffic is comprised of visitors who are seeking information that matches the objective of their search.
Litterally millions of people and millions of dollars change hands when this process combined with savvy SEO strategies
fulfills its design.
Black hat SEO is the exact opposite of white hat SEO. The difference is sometimes described as hacking. Black hat practices
use subtle and not so subtle tricks and manipulations to cause a website to be very attractive to Internet vistors seeking
information.

Black hat” SEO employs more deceptive methods to try to improve rankings. The search engines usually disapprove these methods. This can range from text that is “hidden”, either as text colored similar to the background or by redirecting users from a page that is built for search engines to one that is more human friendly. As a general rule, a method that sends a user to a page that was different to the page described in the search is called Black hat. Search engines can and do penalize sites they discover using black hat methods, either by reducing their rankings or eliminating their listings from their databases altogether. Such penalties can be applied either automatically by the search engines’ algorithms, or by a manual review of a site.

its illegal in eyes of search engine. Means if you do not have concern with any search engine than there is no need of black hat or white hat SEO. And if you concern than you must use white hat seo strategies.
Your can be banned on all search engines if you caught.
