What do you charge for search engine optimization? For pay per click advertising and maintenance? How about blog set up and promotion?

I typically charge $150/hour for SEO services that include on-page optimization, link building, and linkbait strategizing. I don’t engage in any of the bogus search engine submissions, though.

For PPC, I charge the same rate for setup, along with a monthly fee equal to 20% of the PPC spending

Blog setup and promotion are also billed at the $150/hour rate.

Ok, Im a good Christian man. Ive been working hard at SEO and SEM, considered blackhat, know a bit of white hat and can generate a few visitors. But if you would, please, just show me the window. Things can be arranged.

The vast majority of the time the top results on google are either showering search engines with money or have paid experts to come in and optimize their website. Neither is cheap – I have a close associate who actually paid over 15k a while back to have his page come up on the top results – not really much if you can make it back in profits though. I disagree with the above poster because now this guy generates over half a million in yearly sales – so SEO optimization is well worth the money.

Pay per click advertising is a good start for a moderate budget – it really doesn’t bring that much of a return though.

As for your actual SEO make absolute certain that your page’s content is keyword heavy. Pick around 10-15 different keywords and use them over and over again inside your content so the search engines know that your page is relevant to the meta tags. It is also important to add as many pages as possible to your website – in the beginning months it is suggested to try to write 10-20 new LANDING pages that are keyword heavy – the more pages, the more the search engine will like you. It could also be beneficial to add a site map at the bottom of the page; search engines like linked pages.

Edit: I would also like to add one thing… Not sure if the above examples used by Coder are applicable. It totally depends on the website to be honest. If you are selling a product then SEO is definitely something that needs to be considered because all of your competition is trying to cut ahead with it. If its a blog – well, content is the only thing going for you. It is also a fine art to be able to type things that sound pleasant to the ear but are also keyword heavy – this would get you extremely far.

Now the question you need to ask yourself is: Is it worth leaving out SEO because some random guy on yahoo answers told you a couple sites made it to the top without it? Sure content is everything but don’t cheat yourself because all of your google competition is taking that extra step to get a higher score.

I started with very little knowledge of SEO strategies and have made 5 sales from affiliates I promote on my site. I have been working like crazy trying to get a grasp on Googles Page Rank system to take advantage of getting traffic, but it seems slow to update. Are the spiders used to crawl the web slow to update? And have I had very reasonable success to date?

2 is a good rank for this early on. The best place to get your answers is actually in the webmaster info section of the search engines you’re interested in doing well with.

Things change all the time, last I checked most updates were done about every 30 days (probably more often though).

The system is designed, in most cases, for progress to be slow. If it were too fast it would kind of blow the whole point of people being able to find the highest quality search results.

If you’re interested in page rank, you’ll find a site or two like slashdot, watch for articles you can write intelligent comments on and post, with your URL listed in your info & signature, with a little plug. This will bring your site rank up and get you traffic. It’s not spaming because you’re legitimately contributing content (if you’re not, your comments will be pushed out or you’d be kicked out).

Another thing you can do, in place of some of your ads might be to use some google ads. They do pay well. You can optimize that too.

The google ads show ads basted on the content of your site. If you get an adwords account and pretend to set up ads you’d like to run the tool will show you, based on keywords you choose or based on your site, all relevant and related keywords along with 2 important tidbits! 1) Search popularity and 2) Competition!

This lets you see what keywords will get you hits and which keywords will pay-out the most for ads. Make sure a lot of your content uses that material and you’re set.

I know someone running a fight a DUI site where he uses a blog to post stuff from the news now & then. He’ll use the slashdot/fark posting to help with page rank and he makes great money just on google ads!

In layman’s term, SEO contest is a competition participated by webmasters using a search engine’s web site pagerank system. Typically, the competition uses a nonsense and non-existent keyword for optimization. Several of the most known SEO contest keywords take the “hommingberger gepardenforelle”, “Busby SEO Challenge” and the “Busby SEO Test”.

Typically, a contest is set up and a keyword is defined by the contest holder. The target of the contest then is to develop a website or a web page that is optimized for that keyword. The destination then is to obtain the 1st position rank for a search engine or some search engines for the given keyword.

In regular niches the competition is not as killing as in SEO contests, well… except for the search engine optimization niche off coarse. Only to be the best in an SEO contest you don’t always have to have a big wallet, or a huge network of authority web sites. You can also win with a good strategy, and good SEO tactic.

The number one for the search engine contest keyword phrase is always the one everybody is concentrated upon. And everything that page does is being repeated by hundreds of people. And that’s not what you wish, do you? You want to win by surprise. The best way is off course making the first spot a day before the end of the contest. But how can you do that? Well I’ll explain it to you.

Starting of all you need to get yourself indexed, get several low pagerank backlinks from some link directories or something.
